# How do I connect Brein to OpenClaw?

> Connect Brein to your OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot) from its settings screen and ask for your first list.

With Brein connected, your OpenClaw can look for customers, read your pipeline and prepare emails from wherever you already talk to it: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack or its own chat. OpenClaw brings the agent; Brein brings the data and the actions.

<Note>
  OpenClaw used to be called Clawdbot (and, for a few days, Moltbot). It is the same project.
</Note>

You need a Brein account and admin access to your OpenClaw.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open settings at your Gateway's address">
    Open the OpenClaw control screen from your own Gateway's address: the local one on your machine, its Tailscale address or its `https` address. Go to **Settings → MCP**.

    If you open settings from any other address, the Brein sign-in cannot come back and gets stuck halfway.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add Brein">
    Under **Configured servers**, tap **Add server**:

    * **Name:** `brein`
    * **Transport:** Streamable HTTP
    * **URL:** `https://api.trybrein.com/mcp`

    Save with **Add server**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tell it to sign in">
    Further down, in the config editor on the same page, add `"auth": "oauth"` to the `brein` server. That makes OpenClaw ask you to sign in to Brein instead of asking for a key.

    ```json theme={"theme":"github-light"}
    "brein": {
      "url": "https://api.trybrein.com/mcp",
      "transport": "streamable-http",
      "auth": "oauth"
    }
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in to Brein and approve">
    Tap **Sign in** next to Brein. Brein opens in your browser: sign in with your account, pick your workspace and approve. Go back to OpenClaw's settings.

    «Authentication saved» only means it stored the access. The real test is the next step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Try it in a chat">
    In the chat, tap **+ → Connectors** and check that Brein shows up with its tools. Then ask it what's below.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Ask it this to test

> Show me the Brein workspaces I can use and how many credits I have left.

If it answers with your workspace name and your plan, you're connected. That question only reads: it spends nothing.

Then try something useful: [your first requests](/work/first-requests).

## One important thing

OpenClaw can act on its own, at any hour, and that is fine for reading, searching and preparing. Anything that **spends credits or sends email** still asks a person for a yes inside Brein, even if OpenClaw is allowed to use the tool. No agent says yes to itself. More in [what needs your yes](/trust/yes).

If several people talk to your OpenClaw, each of them should connect their own Brein account. That way every action is in the name of whoever asked for it.

## If something fails

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Sign in** does not show up | Check that you added `"auth": "oauth"` and that Brein is enabled. |
| The browser signs in to Brein but OpenClaw never notices | You opened settings from an address that is not your Gateway's. Open them from the local, Tailscale or `https` Gateway address and tap **Sign in** again. |
| Brein is not in **+ → Connectors** | Check that the server is enabled and open a new chat. |
| It says your plan does not include that | See [credits and plans](/trust/credits). |
